I'm not too worried about the invasiveness....not now at least, lol!

We can use them for ourselves but also for pig feed in the early spring.

And...I've got them in a separate garden away from the main veggie gardens. So here's hoping!Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15423880021791681592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1539457256761038560.post-88151068687994000532010-05-07T07:19:47.492-07:002010-05-07T07:19:47.492-07:00Jerusalem Artichokes, I've never planted them,...Jerusalem Artichokes, I've never planted them, although I did think about it. I have heard they can be a real pain in the, er, back! It's hard to get rid of them once you get them started because even if you leave a little splinter in the ground they will grow again!

But even so, they would be great to grow I think for the animals and us humans... I am looking forward to hear what you think of them as you grow and harvest.Linda Foleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16875718412873470143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1539457256761038560.post-87381553097654118392010-05-05T23:08:17.266-07:002010-05-05T23:08:17.266-07:00That's a funny comment from Cedar View Paint H...That's a funny comment from Cedar View Paint Horses! Marching and saluting artichokes create quite a visual image!
The little chokes are great to eat raw, too, and just rinsed from the garden. They don't need to be peeled and they are crisp and clean and help control blood sugar levels.Tim and Kari O'Brienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07692327673634314221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1539457256761038560.post-3177685802848672072010-05-05T19:35:46.603-07:002010-05-05T19:35:46.603-07:00Jerusalem Artichokes...so eloquently dubbed "...Jerusalem Artichokes...so eloquently dubbed "The Curse" by my coworker (who in turn gave me some which ended in getting me cursin').

I recommend planting them a good distance away from your garden. Say....40 acres? They are incredibly prolific. I won't say they spread, but they do march. Like the German front.

They do have their good side: they make a wonderful living fence, they get lil' yellow flowers (if yer season is long enough), and yes, you can eat them. Not much flavor, and they turn to mush when cooked. Add to soups right at the end of cooking.

Do NOT try to eradicate by tilling.Cedar View Paint Horseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09407880448814901911noreply@blogger.com
