Birds in our Cariboo Valley

A barn swallow hanging out down at the chicken coop....swallows have made a nest in our barn eaves.

Then...this fellow was nibbling at my lettuce seedlings!!

Friends told me what kind of bird it is, but now I don't remember...does anyone know?

We have Sandhill Cranes come to our Valley every Spring....they nest here in the hayfields. They are big big birds. And they have a loud shrill call!

I've been trying to take a picture of them for several years, but it is hard to. I never seem to have the camera in hand when I see one fly by!

Why yes, Annie, it's a yellow breasted lettuce snatcher.

It's an evening grosbeak, close kin to a yellow breasted lettuce snatcher.
