Out for a walk in the woods the other day, we came across these....wild cranberries!
Then, we saw a few of these...wild blueberries!
And...lots of rose hips. When we go back, we're going to bring containers and do some picking.
There were a lot of cranberries out there!

My husband noticed that there were tons of cranberries along the Little Saskatchewan River here in Manitoba. He said they were just thick and heavy on the branches. Pity he didn't think to pick a some...
Yuck! I hate (Really, that's a weak word to use for how I feel about highbush cranberries) highbush cranberries. Now the blueberries? Love them.
Oh I do miss the berries! Do you ever find watermelon berries Annie?
My all time favorite berry is black currants... the bush has a very pungent smell and I love it! I love the tomato bush smell also.
I didn't pick black berries this year. Will probably get back at them next year though.
umbrellalady, I have tasted homemade cranberry sauce made from wild berries, it was very good!
Krissy, we love them too but they are sooo small here, it takes a lot to fill up a bowl.
Linda, what do watermelon berries look like?
They look like this:
Watermelon Berries
Only, if I recall, ours were green instead of red. They may have been both...
Oh I have seen those, thanks for posting that link Linda!
I thought the bush kinda looked like a false Solomon's Seal....
They are called 'watermelon' berries because they are very watery like a watermelon only no pulp! They don't taste like watermelons though... My Mother usually added them to other berries to make them go further. I don't believe she ever made jelly with them alone... I will ask her and see if she remembers.
