Berry Bed and New Rhubarb Bed

Yesterday we got the chives and Lovage moved out of the Berry Bed...

in the pic, only the Rhubarb plant is left....

The one side now completely cleaned out.

Here's the new Rhubarb bed. It will be bigger than this, but this is a start!

We separated each of the chive plants as well as the Rhubarb plant.

The Lovage we left as is, altho I had done a good trim job last week.

Now we have to keep this bed watered really really well.

I doubt we will get much top growth this year out of these plants, but that's OK.

We want them to spend time building their root systems before Fall sets in.

And...we got the black plastic laid out over the one half of the Berry Bed.

The plan is to leave it in place for about 3 weeks at least.

At that point, I will need to replant the garlic in there.

I am so hoping the grass is dead and gone when I lift the plastic off!

I think we will be able to at least double the amount of garlic we had planted in there!

Cleaning Up the Berry Bed

Every year, I vow to get this bed under control.....

and every year, it gets away from me....yet again!

Yesterday I pulled all the garlic, it looks fantastic!

Pulled garlic drying for a little while in the sun....it is now hanging up downstairs.

I have got to get the grass in this bed out of here....it'll be quite a job I think. And I need to dig out these little violas!

But, I'm going to put down black plastic....I will need to replant the garlic in about 3 or 4 weeks. And since I want to double the size of the garlic bed again, I need to get going on this project!

Veggie Garden and Berry Bed Pic - Part Three

We have zuccinis growing - we should be eating the first ones any day now....

Onions - 3 rows planted at different times. I've finally got those weeds out of there!

The strawberries are coming on really nicely - we haven't put any away yet. Why? Cuz I sit in the strawberry bed and eat them!! They don't even make it up to the house....

I think we will have a really good raspberry harvest this year - we tasted our first berries last nite.

Garlic - all the scapes are now removed and pickled and put away in the pantry...
The plants themselves are very strong looking - can't wait to harvest the first fresh head!

Half my Main Veggie Garden is Planted!

Woot, woot! I'm a happy farmer because the entire right hand side of the main Veggie Garden is now planted! I know it doesn't look like much......yet.

Top right is all potatoes, with a few extra rows in the top portion of the lower garden....does that make sense?

Also seeded are Spinach, Kale, Chard, Beets, Turnips and Carrots!! Weeeeeee!

Progress in the Berry Bed.....

Garlic in background, Chives on the left, Lovage in the front, and one of our Rhubarb plants on the right.

The goodness of Garlic! This year, I am going to double the size of the garlic bed again!

I'm planning on making braids this Fall with the Garlic.

My new Perennial Bed, along the pathway down to the Barn. I've got the solar lights in there now, and the plants seem to be settling in. I hear a neighbour has even more plants to give me!
